As the Los Angeles Unified School District considers its proposed Using Technology with Intention policy, SIIA submitted comments supporting the district’s goal of promoting student wellbeing while encouraging a more nuanced approach to educational technology. SIIA emphasized that not all screen time is the same and that educator-guided, curriculum-aligned instructional technology should be treated differently from social media, gaming, and other consumer-focused platforms.
In its letter to the Board of Education, SIIA highlighted the importance of preserving access to evidence-based instructional tools, particularly for students with disabilities and those in under-resourced schools. The association encouraged LAUSD to focus on the quality, governance, and educational value of technology rather than relying solely on broad screen-time limits, ensuring that technology remains a tool that strengthens teaching and learning.
